Marcels
About This Spot
Stepping into Marcels on Meanwood Road feels like entering a quietly spirited corner of Leeds where warmth and welcome come as naturally as the rich aromas drifting from the kitchen. The pace here is unhurried, the kind of place where you might find yourself lingering over a morning coffee or settling in with a light lunch and good company. The simple rhythms of the café hum along with a friendly nod to both tradition and diversity, reflected in its varied and thoughtfully prepared menu.
Whether it’s the comforting draw of a freshly brewed espresso or the inviting promise of homey dishes that gently nod to both British and Caribbean roots, Marcels offers a sincere kind of nourishment. The atmosphere strikes a balance between familiarity and discovery—there’s a genuine ease in interaction, with staff who feel more like neighbors than servers, creating a space where everyone can feel at ease. This is a spot where care shows up not just in the generous portions and affordable prices but in the quiet attentiveness of the team.
For those who seek variety, the café embraces all kinds of eaters—vegetarians, vegans, and those looking for hearty, soul-satisfying meals alike. You may find yourself delighting in the unexpected harmony of curried goat alongside fresh fruit or indulging in a classic Victoria sponge that pairs effortlessly with a pot of tea. It’s a place that feels equally at home welcoming a breakfast crowd, families, or a few friends drawn by the genuine hospitality and the unpretentious approach to food and comfort.
While the space is modest and practical, and the soundtrack occasionally a little lively, these small details only add to Marcels’ unpolished charm. It’s the kind of café that doesn’t strive for showiness but instead quietly wins your trust through warmth—the kind of place you return to because it just feels right.

Lovely cafe, great gluten free selection of sandwiches and a lovely guy. Definitely come down it's worth it. Made us feel at ease, brought drinks and sandwiches out to us. Such a genuine and kind man

Delicious curry goat for only £10! Most of the food is significantly cheaper than £10 as well. Chap (Marcel?) is very friendly

A really nice place to visit and the staff were very friendly. The food was also very good. I will definitely visit again.

The friendliest staff, more veggie options that you could shake a stick at, great if you're on a budget, the food was generous, clean and simple. My only complaint was the uncomfortable seats and slightly too loud radio. No wheel chair access.

Came here couple of weeks ago with my daughter for breakfast. Gentleman was really nice I’m not sure is it owner or staff but really positive. Food just amazing. Portions are huge today came back again with my niece and no complaints at all. Very reasonable prices. Recommended

Very lovely guy that owns the cafe. Incredibly nice and polite. Low priced menu - homely atmosphere. Nice to support the community.
